In Jhalak's words
A Chesterfield is the sofa that separates a workshop that can upholster from a workshop that can only cover. Every button on the back is tied by hand, through the frame, and pulled to an even depth — forty-two of them on the three-seater. Get one button wrong and the whole back reads crooked from across the room.
The arms are steam-bent over a sal former rather than built up from blocks, which is why the roll is continuous and why the leather sits without a wrinkle at the front scroll. It takes our senior karigar the better part of two days.
This is our slowest sofa and we will not shorten the lead time to win the order. Thirty-five to forty-five days is honest. If you need seating for a hotel lobby in three weeks, we will point you at RP Atithi instead and tell you why.
It is also a sofa that ages well: leather that looks a little used at year five is a Chesterfield doing exactly what it should.
“Count the buttons if you like — every one of them was tied by a hand in this workshop, not by a machine.”— Jhalak Bahadur Khatri, proprietor
The build
Foam
40-density seat with a feathered top layer; hand-packed back
Frame
Seasoned sal with a steam-bent arm roll
Joinery
Mortise-and-tenon with hand-fitted arm blocks
Stitch
Hand-tied deep button tufting; hand-rolled arm seam
Ask us for an offcut of the actual foam going into your sofa and we will hand it to you. Come to the workshop and push the bare frame with your own hands before it is covered — most people who do that stop worrying.
Delivery and warranty, in plain language
Free delivery inside Ring Road, quoted honestly at cost anywhere else in Nepal. Fifty per cent advance when you sign the written specification, balance on delivery — and the specification lists the model, exact size, fabric name and batch, foam densities, leg finish and date, so there is nothing left to remember or argue about.
Five years on the frame and joinery. Five years on foam collapse. One year on stitching, zips and mechanisms. If something goes wrong, send a photograph and your ledger serial number to 9849239091 on WhatsApp — that is the whole claim process. Your fabric is reserved from the same roll for six months, so a matching extra piece actually matches.

Questions people ask about the RP Heritage Chesterfield
Hand-tied tufting and steam-bent arms. There are about forty-two buttons on the three-seater, each pulled and tied individually. We will not rush that; a rushed Chesterfield looks rushed forever.
For a Chesterfield, genuine leather, honestly. The whole character of the piece is in how the leather creases at the buttons. PU stays flat and looks like a copy.
Yes, with a wipe and a leather conditioner twice a year. We give you the conditioner and show you how at delivery.
Honestly, it is firmer and lower than a Lawson. People love it for a study or an office and sometimes find it too upright for television evenings.
Yes — 160 cm two-seater and a wing chair (RP Sabha Wing) tufted to match.
Yes. Come to the workshop on any working morning; there is usually one on the bench.
