A Chesterfield is the honest test of whether a workshop can upholster or can only cover. There are forty-two buttons on our three-seater, and each one is tied by hand, pulled through the frame, and set to the same depth as the forty-one others. Get one wrong and the whole back reads crooked from across the room — not obviously, just enough that visitors feel something is off without being able to name it.

There is a simple way to check any tufted sofa anywhere. Press your thumb into the cloth beside a button. On a genuinely hand-tufted back the fabric moves and springs back, because there is real padding tied down under tension. On a moulded imitation — which is most of what arrives in shipping containers — nothing moves at all, because the diamonds were pressed into a foam sheet at a factory.

The second signature is the arm. A proper Chesterfield arm is steam-bent over a former, not built up from blocks, which is why the roll is continuous and why leather lies flat at the front scroll without a single wrinkle. That single component takes our senior karigar the better part of two days.

We build the style two ways. RP Heritage Chesterfield is the classic in genuine leather, oxblood or tan, with a turned bun foot — the piece for a study, a chamber, a law office, a boutique hotel bar. RP Heritage Tuft is the same hand-tied buttoning in velvet or jacquard at roughly half the price, which is why boutique cafés in Jhamsikhel and Lakeside keep ordering it: deep buttoned velvet photographs extraordinarily well, and a café in 2026 lives on how it looks on a phone.

Lead time is thirty-five to forty-five days and we will not shorten it to win an order. Buttoning cannot be hurried, and a rushed Chesterfield stays rushed for twenty years.
