Outdoor & Balcony Sofas made in Nepal

Outdoor furniture in Nepal has to survive two opposite seasons within six months of each other: a monsoon that keeps everything damp for weeks, and a dry winter sun at altitude that bleaches colour faster than most people expect. Ordinary sofa construction fails at both ends. Wood swells and then cracks, standard foam holds water and starts to smell within one season, and normal upholstery fabric fades in a single spring on a south-facing terrace.

So the outdoor range is built differently from the ground up. RP Aakash uses a powder-coated aluminium frame that cannot rust, quick-dry reticulated foam with an open cell structure that lets water pass straight through rather than holding it, and solution-dyed outdoor fabric where the colour is in the fibre itself rather than printed on the surface. RP Bagaicha takes a powder-coated steel core and wraps it in hand-woven cane for the softer, more traditional balcony look, with the same quick-dry foam inside the cushions.

Balconies in Kathmandu apartments are small, and most outdoor furniture sold here is scaled for a garden that Nepali flats do not have. Both models are built to balcony proportions by default — a two-seater at 140 centimetres and a corner arrangement that tucks against a railing — and we will build to your exact balcony width at no extra charge if you send a measurement.

Honest expectation setting: no outdoor fabric is permanent under direct Himalayan sun. Solution-dyed cloth holds its colour for five to seven years on a covered terrace and three to four on a fully exposed one. Bring the cushions in during the worst of the monsoon and both numbers improve considerably.

For rooftop cafés and resort terraces we supply the same range in contract quantities with a VAT invoice.
