5-Seater Sofas made in Nepal
Five seats can be bought in two completely different ways, and choosing the wrong one is the most common seating mistake we see in Nepali homes.
The long five-seater is one continuous frame, usually 250 to 270 centimetres, sitting flat against a single wall. It gives you an unbroken line, it leaves the floor of the room completely clear, and it is the easiest large sofa to fit into a Kathmandu flat because it only commits one wall. It is what we recommend for joint families, for landlords furnishing a rental where tenants will rearrange nothing, and for any room narrower than about eleven feet where an L-shape would eat the walking path.
The 3+1+1 compact set gives you the same five seats across three pieces. It costs slightly less, it fits through narrow staircases far more easily, and the two single-seaters can be angled towards each other for conversation or moved into another room entirely. It is the better answer in a smaller square room and in any household that likes to rearrange furniture.
Frame considerations at this length. A 260-centimetre seat is long enough that the middle will flex if the frame is not built for it, and a flexing frame is what eventually cracks a seat deck. Every RP five-seater over 240 centimetres gets a centre leg, a full plywood seat deck rather than webbing, and 40-density foam right through instead of our standard 32-over-40. We do not charge extra for that; it is simply what the length requires.
Getting it into the flat. This is a real problem and worth ten minutes of your time before you order. Measure the narrowest turn on your staircase and the width of your door frame. If a single 260-centimetre frame will not make the turn — and in many Kathmandu buildings it will not — we build the same sofa as two bolted sections that join invisibly under the seat cushions. It looks identical when assembled. Tell us the staircase measurement at enquiry stage and we will decide it with you rather than discovering it on delivery day.
Realistic prices. A long five-seater starts at NPR 55,000 and most families land between 60,000 and 85,000 depending on fabric. The 3+1+1 compact set starts at 55,000 and runs to about 88,000. Both include delivery inside Ring Road.
