In Jhalak's words
The L-shape is the sofa Nepal is buying right now, and it is also the sofa that is being sold badly right now. The imported ones on Instagram look perfect in a photograph and then the chaise sags in the second year because there is nothing structural under it. Ours has a plywood deck across the chaise, carried on the same seasoned sal frame as the main run, because that corner is where an L-shape either lives or dies.
This is the right-hand version — the chaise sits on your right as you look at the sofa. If your room needs the mirror, we build that too, at the same price.
We can put storage under the chaise: a hinged lid over a lined box, which is where most families end up keeping blankets and the extra cushions that come out when guests stay. Say so before we start and it costs nothing extra; say so afterwards and we have to rebuild the chaise.
Sizes are not fixed. 240 cm is our standard main run, but we have built it from 200 cm up to 300 cm.
“Measure your room once, send me the photo, and I will tell you honestly whether the L will fit or whether you want the five-seater instead.”— Jhalak Bahadur Khatri, proprietor
The build
Foam
32-density seat foam over 40-density support; 24-density back
Frame
Seasoned sal wood with plywood decking under the chaise
Joinery
Mortise-and-tenon with corner blocks
Stitch
Piped edge, double-needle
Ask us for an offcut of the actual foam going into your sofa and we will hand it to you. Come to the workshop and push the bare frame with your own hands before it is covered — most people who do that stop worrying.
Delivery and warranty, in plain language
Free delivery inside Ring Road, quoted honestly at cost anywhere else in Nepal. Fifty per cent advance when you sign the written specification, balance on delivery — and the specification lists the model, exact size, fabric name and batch, foam densities, leg finish and date, so there is nothing left to remember or argue about.
Five years on the frame and joinery. Five years on foam collapse. One year on stitching, zips and mechanisms. If something goes wrong, send a photograph and your ledger serial number to 9849239091 on WhatsApp — that is the whole claim process. Your fabric is reserved from the same roll for six months, so a matching extra piece actually matches.

Questions people ask about the RP Newa L
Stand where your TV is and look at the sofa. If the long part with no back — the chaise — is on your right, you need the right-hand version, which is this one. If it is on your left, you need RP Newa L (Mirror). Send us a photo of the room on WhatsApp and we will tell you.
Yes for an afternoon nap, and it is built for it — plywood deck, sal frame, no soft spot in the middle. It is not a bed, though. If someone will sleep on it regularly, look at RP Nidra Fold instead.
Sometimes, and we will say so. In a room under about 11 feet on the short side, an L often eats the walking path. In that case the RP Basanta Long five-seater usually gives the same seat count with less floor lost.
Yes — a hinged lid over a lined box. It has to be decided before we build the chaise frame, so tell us at enquiry stage.
Because those are usually a light softwood or particle-board frame with low-density foam, sold once with no after-sales. Sit on both. That is the only argument we will make.
In PU leather, yes, and it wears well in Nepali homes. In genuine leather, yes, but it roughly doubles the price and we will tell you before you commit.
