How heavy is it to open? Can one person do it?

One adult, one hand, in about four seconds. If anyone in your house has a bad back or wrist, say so and we will fit the softer-action mechanism.

Is it really comfortable to sleep on?

For a guest staying a week, yes — 40-density mattress-grade foam, flat, no bar under the spine. For someone sleeping on it every night for years, we would honestly recommend a proper bed.

Does the bedding stay inside?

Not in the fold-out. If you want storage for a quilt, look at RP Nidra Draw, which has the pull-out drawer underneath.

Will the mechanism rust in the monsoon?

The steel is powder-coated and the hinge is greased at assembly. Give it a wipe and a drop of oil once a year and it will outlive the fabric.

Can it be covered in a washable fabric?

Yes. Ask for the removable-cover build — zips on the seat and back cushions so covers can go to the dhobi.

What is the warranty on the mechanism?

One year on the mechanism, five years on the frame. If the hinge fails inside the first year we replace it, no argument.

In Jhalak's words

Most sofa-cum-beds in the market fail in the same place: the hinge. It is stamped light steel, it is riveted rather than bolted, and after two hundred openings it starts to twist. Ours is a bolted steel mechanism carried directly on the sal frame, and we open and close every single unit fifty times in the workshop before it leaves.

The second failure is the foam. A sofa-cum-bed is a bed for somebody — usually your mother-in-law, usually for a week — so we build it in mattress-grade 40-density foam right through, not soft sofa foam that folds into a valley under a sleeping adult.

Open, it is 190 by 130 centimetres, which is a genuine double. Closed, it is a 190 cm three-seater that does not announce what it is. That matters: nobody wants a living room that looks like a guest room.

If a family member will sleep on it every night rather than occasionally, tell us. We change the foam specification.

Ask us for an offcut of the actual foam going into your sofa and we will hand it to you. Come to the workshop and push the bare frame with your own hands before it is covered — most people who do that stop worrying.

Delivery and warranty, in plain language

Free delivery inside Ring Road, quoted honestly at cost anywhere else in Nepal. Fifty per cent advance when you sign the written specification, balance on delivery — and the specification lists the model, exact size, fabric name and batch, foam densities, leg finish and date, so there is nothing left to remember or argue about.

Five years on the frame and joinery. Five years on foam collapse. One year on stitching, zips and mechanisms. If something goes wrong, send a photograph and your ledger serial number to 9849239091 on WhatsApp — that is the whole claim process. Your fabric is reserved from the same roll for six months, so a matching extra piece actually matches.
