In Jhalak's words

The fold-out sofa-cum-bed has one flaw that nobody mentions in the shop: there is nowhere to keep the bedding. So the quilt lives in a suitcase on top of a wardrobe and the sofa-bed only gets used when somebody is willing to climb for it.

This version solves that. The bed pulls out from underneath on steel runners rated to eighty kilos, and behind it sits a real storage drawer — 180 by 60 by 20 centimetres, which holds two quilts and two pillows without forcing.

It is the build landlords ask us for most, because a tenant can actually use it without instruction, and because there is no hinge mechanism above the seat to twist. Both the seat and the pull-out are 40-density mattress-grade foam.

One honest note: the pull-out bed sits lower than the seat, at about 30 cm from the floor. Elderly guests sometimes find that low. If that is your situation, RP Nidra Fold is the better choice.

“Pull the drawer out and put your own quilt in it before you buy — that is the real test of whether it is big enough.”— Jhalak Bahadur Khatri, proprietor

The build

Foam

Mattress-grade 40-density on both the seat and the pull-out

Frame

Seasoned sal with steel drawer runners rated to 80 kg

Joinery

Mortise-and-tenon with bolted runner rails

Stitch

Double-needle with bar-tacks at the pull handle

Ask us for an offcut of the actual foam going into your sofa and we will hand it to you. Come to the workshop and push the bare frame with your own hands before it is covered — most people who do that stop worrying.

Delivery and warranty, in plain language

Free delivery inside Ring Road, quoted honestly at cost anywhere else in Nepal. Fifty per cent advance when you sign the written specification, balance on delivery — and the specification lists the model, exact size, fabric name and batch, foam densities, leg finish and date, so there is nothing left to remember or argue about.

Five years on the frame and joinery. Five years on foam collapse. One year on stitching, zips and mechanisms. If something goes wrong, send a photograph and your ledger serial number to 9849239091 on WhatsApp — that is the whole claim process. Your fabric is reserved from the same roll for six months, so a matching extra piece actually matches.
