In Jhalak's words
The cheapest thing in our catalogue and, per rupee, possibly the most useful. A single armchair fills the awkward corner that a sofa cannot reach, gives a bedroom somewhere to sit that is not the bed, and turns a landing into a place people actually stop.
It is built to exactly the same specification as the three-seater: seasoned sal frame, mortise-and-tenon corners, 32-density seat over a 40-density support. We do not make a cheaper frame for a smaller piece. The only reason it costs NPR 14,000 and the three-seater costs 32,000 is material quantity.
Hotels order these in tens for guest rooms, and we build those with a firmer seat and a wipeable fabric. Homes usually take one or two in whatever cloth the main sofa is not.
“Every house should have one chair that belongs to one person. This is that chair.”— Jhalak Bahadur Khatri, proprietor
The build
Foam
32-density seat foam over 40-density support
Frame
Seasoned sal wood
Joinery
Mortise-and-tenon
Stitch
Double-needle top stitch
Ask us for an offcut of the actual foam going into your sofa and we will hand it to you. Come to the workshop and push the bare frame with your own hands before it is covered — most people who do that stop worrying.
Delivery and warranty, in plain language
Free delivery inside Ring Road, quoted honestly at cost anywhere else in Nepal. Fifty per cent advance when you sign the written specification, balance on delivery — and the specification lists the model, exact size, fabric name and batch, foam densities, leg finish and date, so there is nothing left to remember or argue about.
Five years on the frame and joinery. Five years on foam collapse. One year on stitching, zips and mechanisms. If something goes wrong, send a photograph and your ledger serial number to 9849239091 on WhatsApp — that is the whole claim process. Your fabric is reserved from the same roll for six months, so a matching extra piece actually matches.
